Dear Parents,
Welcome back with summer nearly over and the school routines well underway. We hope you’ve had a great summer holiday and such glorious weather still!
The Summer Dance Workshop in August was a great success which the children thoroughly enjoyed (and lots of tears from the watching parents). How proud we all were to see Street Dance to Cheerleading routines, as well as Jazz and various numbers from the movie “Frozen”. We were delighted to have Mrs DeMeric our founder of our school pop down to watch our little showing too.
Our next Easter Dance Workshop will be 8th, 9th and 10th April 2015 so please put the dates in your diary as to not miss out. I hope you saw the pictures in my last email? If not there are on the website.
Due to popular demand we will also be starting Musical Theatre classes on Fridays after half term for trial period for 5 weeks at £35.00. The first class will be Friday 7th November, times will be 4.00-4.45pm for 5-7yrs and 4.45-5.30pm for 8yrs plus.
Please let us know if you’d be interested.
Just to remind you that are no classes on Thursday 25th & Friday 26th September due to a Craft Fair hence starting 11th & 12th September. There are also no classes on Friday 17th October & Friday 14th November to be replaced on Friday 5th & Friday 12th December due to Craft Fairs at the Maltings.
Demeric School of Dance has again had many great achievements. We start by congratulating our children who were awarded the Demeric Awards for this year. They were: Lucy Hinton & Tilly Easton, the joint winners of the Progress Cup and Bethan Horstead for the Performance Award. Well done!! Photos of our winners will also be on our website shortly. Congratulations to all the children & students who took their exams in the summer term.
We had students passing right up to Adv.1 Tap and with a Distinction in Intermediate Modern and an outstanding 70% Distinctions in our last Ballet exams.Well done to all of you!
For Children taking their Ballet Exams this term the Ballet Exam Rehearsal has now been changed to Saturday 15th November. Please let us know if you have any queries regarding that date.
We hope that with this letter some of you who are new to the school are aware of the different classes that we run and we do try to meet the needs of all who dance at Demeric. All our classes are on the website.
We have 2 big dates in the diary this term.
Please make sure the 2014 Tapathon ‘Children In Need’ Sunday 16th November is in your diaries from 12.00-2.00pm. If you haven’t tapped before here’s your chance!!!! The aim will be to dance a Tap routine which will be danced all around the country at 1pm that day and try and break the World Record for having over 7,596 tappers dancing at the same time.We have added some 15 mins slots on our Modern & Tap day on Tuesdays. 4.30-4.45pm, 6.30-6.45pm or 8.15-8.30pm and all the Wednesday morning Adult Tap classes. There is one basic Tap routine and then an alternative more advanced version. If you can’t get to dedicated times we hope to teach part of the easier routine on the day maybe even get brothers, sisters, mums , dads, nannies, granddads all tapping! (doesn’t matter if you don’t have tap shoes). Signup sheets and relevant paperwork is attached to this letter. There will be a fee of £15.00 to attend this event which includes a Tapathon T-shirt but all proceeds will be going to this Charity. We hope it will be a great success so please come along and support it! In addition we are starting a new evening Adult Tap Class on Wednesday evening at 7.30pm at the Methodist Church Hall in Farnham next to the little Sainsburys in town. Please let us know if you’d be interested.
Our other big event this year is the Christmas Farnham Light Switch on the 22nd November . It was a little bit chilly but very Christmassy last year, but the children thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Rehearsals for this will be on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. We will be performing a Street Dance routine, Lyrical/ Modern routines, the Tapathon routine if people are willing? and possibly our Charity Ball Ballet Tutu routine. Again relevant paperwork will be out shortly.
We had a great fundraising Mufti Week last term and raised a fantastic £202.50. We hope to renewing the ballet barres in the Dance Studio at the Maltings shortly, enabling to have ballet ballets in all the dance spaces we use.
As we are only half way there our next Mufti week will be the week before half term Monday 20th – Friday 25th October, please bring in a £1. Our theme that week will be Polka Dots, Stars, Stripes and of course Fairies.
As always at all the places that we teach please make sure that you use the correct changing rooms as we keep being reminded that we cannot allow children to change on stairwells and corridors especially due to the rules and regulations of the children’acts and that we do abide by them. We understand it can be difficult as some of you have siblings with you but we cannot afford to lose the places that we teach in.
We are finding increasing numbers of different dance clothing being worn. We do have a set uniform for all our classes, if you are unsure of the correct uniform for any particular class please ask your teacher. As Autumn is here and the weather getting colder we do have hoodies and t-shirts with our logo as well as still some Alice T-shirts still on sale for £3 each and as always woolly crossovers, legwarmers and shorts for the seniors on sale too.
Please check the school website www.demericdance.co.uk for useful for information on classes, uniform, events and any changes as it can be difficult to speak to parents after classes. If it is uniform queries, please fill out an order form which you can download from the website or collect one from any of your teachers. I would also prefer if you do have a dancing issue that you call 01483 813348 or email me ray@dance.alisonbentley.com
If you do not receive any of the school’s emails or if your details have changed recently please let us know.
A big “Thank you”to all our teachers, helpers and pianists, they’re wonderful playing and assisting in our classes.
We wish all our children the Best of Luck for their forth coming exams, auditions and competitions and please keep working hard!!!
Best Wishes,
