About the Dancers’ Development Experience

Would you like to explore what it’s like to be a part of a ballet company and become a member of the National Youth Ballet family?

This summer we are excited to be returning to the studio to deliver a real-world ballet experience, in person.

We are offering young dancers the chance to experience the life of a professional dancer and their family the opportunity to see a filmed recording of the work that they create.

A limited number of students will have the chance to work together as a company. Each day they will work intensively to hone their technical skills, develop their artistry and cultivate their creativity. These young people will develop their skills as company dancers, whilst experiencing first-hand the process of creating a new ballet with a professional choreographer.

The Dancers’ Development Experience will include:

  • Daily Company Class
  • Company Rehearsals
  • A filmed recording of the end of week sharing
  • The opportunity to work with a respected industry professional choreographer
  • The time to develop rehearsal skills and etiquette alongside our company rehearsal director
  • The chance to develop drama skills with our in-house drama coach
  • The space to build confidence and resilience through a Moving Minds workshop.

This one-of-a-kind experience will provide an opportunity to develop your technical skills and provide a snapshot as to where your training can lead you.

If you are part of the 2021 company you will automatically be fast tracked to the final auditions for our 2022 Performance Season.

Audition applicants will be informed if they are successful, or not, by 5pm on 30th June 2021.

Places on each course will be strictly limited – in line with current government Covid guidelines. Within this framework we will endeavour to make this opportunity as comfortable and engaging as possible.

Video Application

Please include the 2 sections below in ONE video link:

Section 1. About me (1-2min):
This is a short video talking to the camera and an opportunity for us to get to know more about you. Please feel comfortable to show your natural personality, some starting points might be: name, age, favourite things about dance, other passions and why you want to be a part of NYB. We are looking for people who are open to learning new things and who will enjoy being a part of the NYB 2021 company.

Section 2. Ballet class plus optional solo, variation or free movement (max. 15 minutes):
Please wear appropriate ballet clothing and hair up if appropriate.
We are aware that many students will have already recorded video auditions for other vocational schools or courses. We are very happy for you to submit these videos to NYB to save you from having to re-film, we have outlined a basic template of what you may want to include. Please make sure that we can see your full body throughout the class. Should you need any further help or an example as to what to film please email admin@nationalyouthballet.org

Please upload your one video to Youtube as an unlisted video. Title the video with your full name and date of birth and share the link in the relevant section of the eventbrite form.

We understand that we are still living through challenging times so please do not worry about the location of the video, just ensure you have space to move safely.

Pre-video checklist:

Safety:

  • Make sure that you have enough space around you in order to be able to perform the movement safely.
  • Please wear appropriate footwear for your floor surface.

Filming:

  • Check the angle of your camera; ensure it captures your whole body.
